The Golden Globe poster reflects the notion that the movies honored in the event are the gold standard for film evaluation. The Academy Awards have tended to be subject to political considerations over the years. Two of the Sun's movie reviewers, Kat McGregor and Pablo Pizzicato have used the Globe Globe nomination list for video rentals for years without disappointment.
"It's the best sure-fire way to catch the "ones that got away. We think it is the most accurate barometer of watchable films," Ms. McGregor said.
"Movies are different strokes for different folks. There are nominations on both lists that deal with subject matter and dialog so gloomy that I would not review the movie," Mr. Pizzicato agreed. "That out-of-town paper, the St. Petersburg Times had a reviewer who moved to another out-of-town paper, the Tampa Tribune. Bob Ross was his name. I met him once. Nice gentleman - his sister dated a friend of mine - I met her too. Well, he could not pick and choose just the good movies or just the fun movies. He was like a seasoned combat solider wading into battle with some of the worst movies ever made. He even hated a Star Trek movie so much he included a spoiler in the review. We have a policy against doing that.
"I couldn't immerse myself in a sea of dreck like that. So I review movies worth seeing. I don't review the dogs." Mr. Pizzicato laughed softly and added,
"It's ironic, you know. The best show wins a gong in the Golden Globe awards."
Oscar-winning director Steven Spielberg will be honored with the Cecil B DeMille Award for his "outstanding contribution to the entertainment field". The event, which also honors TV shows, is produced by m the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
